What Is Play Therapy?

Play Therapy is a therapeutic process where play becomes the medium for communication. Whether it’s through drawing, storytelling, or role-playing with toys, children express themselves in ways that are both natural and engaging.

Children often find it hard to articulate complex emotions. These feelings can be overwhelming, especially when they don’t yet have the language to describe them.
Play Therapy offers a space where children can explore these emotions through play, safely and at their own pace.

Why Play Therapy?

Children are resilient, but they also need support to navigate the challenges life throws their way. Play Therapy is about helping children grow into confident, self-aware individuals. By providing a safe space to explore their emotions, Hannah helps children develop the skills they need to manage their feelings, build positive relationships and unlock their potential.

How Does Play Therapy Work?

Play Therapy sessions are held in a familiar, secure setting within the school. Sessions are on a 1:1 basis and last 45 minutes, during which children can explore their feelings through play. During a typical session, children are encouraged to choose what they want to play with. This could include toys, art materials, dolls, puppets, sand trays, or other therapeutic tools.

Play might be gently guided based on observations or emerging themes, helping the child work through difficult emotions or addressing specific therapeutic goals.

How Does The Process Unfold?

Parents are invited to an initial meeting. This is a time to discuss any needs or challenges faced, and how Play Therapy can help. Once sessions are underway, there are opportunities to discuss progress and any adjustments that might be needed. A final meeting and written report will conclude the therapy, offering insights and recommendations for ongoing support.
